Learning English is the first step toward achieving these goals. Our programs are designed to provide meaningful experiences for both our volunteers and the communities we serve. We provide training for all of the volunteer opportunities below.

English Language Tutor / Allies for Immigrants Volunteer
Tutor adult students in ESOL classes on an ongoing basis
English language tutors join Allies for Immigrants, a partnership with Boston Cares, and may support a classroom teacher, facilitate a small group in an integrated ESOL/technology skills course, lead a conversation group or citizenship class, tutor a student one-on-one, or coordinate tutors at a program. No prior experience in ESOL teaching or tutoring is necessary. This opportunity requires a commitment to volunteer weekly or twice a month, depending on program needs.
Mock Job Interviewer
Prepare participants for job interviews.
We arrange mock interview events throughout the year for immigrants interested in practicing their job interview skills. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for people who want to help but cannot commit to a twice-monthly volunteering schedule. We are looking for professionals in many different career areas and we are especially interested in those who have experience in human resources or hiring. We occasionally have additional opportunities to get involved with skills trainings, job fairs, or other career-related events.
Small Business Pitch Coach
ENB’s Small Business Pitch event is like “Shark Tank” for immigrant entrepreneurs in our supported programs. You can help students who will be competing in the event to practice their pitch or support students studying the English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs curriculum. You may work one-on-one as a coach with a finalist that will compete at ENB's event or also be on a panel of judges to give feedback to students pitching their small business ideas in class.
When: ENB’s Annual Immigrant Small Business Pitch Event happens between January-March.
Where: 1–2-hour sessions on Zoom and/or in-person
Professional Journey Sharing
Join our hot seat to share about your career!
This opportunity allows students to interview volunteers (on Zoom and in-person) to learn about the volunteer’s professional journey, aspirations and daily work life. By engaging with ESOL students, volunteers not only boost the students’ language acquisition, but also support them in achieving their personal and professional goals.
